Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former NSA contractor who leaked details of the government’s Internet- and phone-tracking programs, reportedly has done work for Round Rock-based Dell Inc.
Dell Inc. spokesman Jess Blackburn on Wednesday said the company had no comment and would neither confirm or deny that Snowden has worked for the company.
Newsday newspaper in New York previously reported that Scott Radcliffe, a Dell spokesman, said the U.S. Justice Department has asked Dell not to comment on the case. Radcliffe wouldn’t say whether Snowden previously worked for Dell, according to the newspaper.
Snowden has been working at the NSA for the past four years as an employee of several outside contractors, the Guardian newspaper of England reported. In addition to Booz Allen Hamilton, the Guardian reported that Snowden also worked for Dell, and it quoted him as saying he had “a very comfortable life,” with a salary that reached $200,000.
Dell in 2009 acquired Perot Systems, which did work for U.S. intelligence agencies. A 2010 Washington Post project identified Dell as the main supplier of desktop computer systems to the intelligence community.
