Austin lags among low-income students: For the past two years, the Austin school district has posted worse graduation rates for low-income students than any other large urban district in Texas, an American-Statesman review found. Just under 79 percent of the 2,400 economically disadvantaged students in the Austin district’s Class of 2012 graduated. Austin is the only major urban district that hasn’t broken through to the 80th percentile.
