Lt. Clay Crabb, a 15-year veteran with the Austin Police Departmentkilled in a wreck on his way to work Wednesday, was remembered by his colleagues as a devoted Aggie who loved children and his job.
It was still dark and raining when the 42-year-old father of three lost control of the black unmarked police cruiser he was driving east on U.S. 290 near Sawyer Ranch Road near Dripping Springs, officials said. The car hydroplaned and veered into oncoming traffic, officials said, when a red pickup traveling west slammed into it about 6:30 a.m.

July 25: Lakeway police Sgt. Chris Doles was off-duty driving a Toyota Tundra he when crossed into oncoming traffic and struck another pickup on Northwest Austin.
Dec. 1, 2012: Austin-Travis County EMS Captain Randy Trinkle was killed in a head-on collision near Fredericksburg.
Aug. 18, 2010: Cedar Park police officer Leonard Reed died after crashing his motorcycle during a training exercise.
Dec. 11, 2004: Austin police Cmdr. Shauna Jacobson and Kurt Jacobson, a retired police detective, were killed when their motorcycle careened off Texas 71 in western Travis County. Kurt Jacobson, who was driving the Harley-Davidson, had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit. Neither was wearing a helmet.
Oct. 31, 2004: Austin police officer Amy Donovan was accidentally struck by a patrol car while trying to question a man who appeared to be acting suspiciously.
April 14, 2004: Austin cadet Trina Andretti was killed on her way home from the police academy after colliding with a Chevy Blazer.
