About a dozen women danced down the middle of the street with hula hoops as “76 Trombones” played from the speakers of a bright yellow Corvette.
The performance by the Mueller Hula Hoop Drill Team (formerly the Lawn Chair Drill Team) was just one component of the annual Fourth of July Parade in the Mueller neighborhood in East Austin. Hundreds of local residents turned out Thursday morning with decorated bicycles, wagons and miniature American flags to celebrate Independence Day in a fast-growing neighborhood that is so new it is still filled with construction equipment.
