We all know it’s wrong to speak ill of the dead. Even newspaper people know that. But let’s see what befalls us if we do it without naming this particular dead person.
I hope you read my colleague Eric Dexheimer’s important recent story about guns and suicides. Clearly, we have to do something about keeping guns out of the hands of folks with mental illness. Far less clear is what we can do about it. I guess we could compile a national database of everyone who’s ever sought psychiatric care, but that doesn’t seem like the way to go.
