In the past, state Rep. Ryan Guillen, D-Rio Grande City, counted on weekday stops at traditional places, such as city halls, when he set out on “listening tours” to hear what was on constituents’ minds.
The tours went fine, but this year, representing a rejiggered district that includes much new territory, Guillen was looking for something different. And he decided to do the tour of his sprawling, 10-county, South Texas district on a weekend day.
