At its meeting Thursday, the Austin City Council:
Agreed to urge state and federal legislators to enact laws to reduce gun crimes, including requiring background checks for gun sales and limiting the size of ammunition magazines.
Agreed to urge Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform.
Agreed to develop a policy for the city to buy healthier foods and more locally produced foods for events and meetings held in city buildings, as well as for city vending machines.
Asked city staffers to gather public input and create a new design for the long-delayed reconstruction of Bartholomew Pool.
Asked city staffers to suggest ways to pay for public works projects and other improvements along Airport Boulevard.
Agreed to offer one free swim day at Deep Eddy Pool during March 9-17.
Passed rules requiring Land Use Commission approval for outdoor amphitheaters on a residential or civic property.
