Three months after the Boys Scouts of America changed its membership policy to allow gay boys into Scouting, the council for 15 Central Texas counties saw a nearly 40 percent boost in new membership over its last recruiting drive a year ago.
This recent surge in interest came despite the fact that 11 area churches or church groups dropped their sponsorship of Scouts.
