An Austin woman whose bid to become a minister was discontinued because she is a lesbian may have to wait until October for a decision on whether the church followed proper procedure.
In a statement posted Tuesday on the website of the United Methodist Church’s Southwest Texas Conference, Bishop Jim Dorff said the request for a ruling of law on behalf of Mary Ann Kaiser was “moot and hypothetical” and therefore, “improper.” He said he would not decide on the substance of the request.
