The Austin Fire Department is asking the city to fund an additional 24 personnel for next fiscal year to meet such needs as staffing special events and fighting wildfires.
The department’s minimum budget forecast for next year is about $5.8 million more than last year’s budget of $138.8 million. That forecast includes paying for typical needs such as health insurance, retirement pensions and maintaining or replacing equipment.
