Federal prosecutors are investigating the financial dealings of an Austin investment manager who died nearly two weeks ago in an apparent suicide and who borrowed substantial sums from a number of prominent Austinites who now are wondering what happened to their money.
The body of Stanley Mark Powell, 53, who lived in a $3 million Tarrytown home with his wife and three children, was found May 16 roughly 100 miles northwest of Austin in Pontotoc Cemetery in Mason County. Mason County Attorney Shain Chapman said Powell died “from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
