Local students earn Eagle Scout award
The following students have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest recognition in the Boy Scouts:
Jacob Lee Parsons, 18, son of Dean and Pam Parsons of Austin, rebuilt an eroded segment of the biking trail in St. Edward’s Park and installed a park bench, mutt mitt dispensers and water bars to make the trail erosion resistant. Parsons graduated from Austin High School and is a member of Troop 500, chartered by the Sunset Valley Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
William Deleery, 16, son of Seth and Beth Deleery of Austin, improved the playground at Capitol School. Deleery is a member of Troop 511, chartered by St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, and is a junior at Anderson High School.
Texas State University System names Regents’ Professor
Michael R. Forstner, Alexander/Stone Chair of Genetics and professor of biology at Texas State University, has been named a Regents’ Professor by the Texas State University System Board of Regents. The lifetime designation honors tenured faculty who have been recognized and recommended by peers, students, the chancellor and the university president for excellence in teaching, research, publication and community service.
