Students earn Eagle Scout award
The following students have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest recognition in the Boy Scouts:
Jordan Mitchell Cartwright, 14, son of Linda and Kenneth Cartwright of Austin, restored a 1927 Santa Fe Caboose damaged during Hurricane Ike for the Galveston Railroad Museum. Cartwright is a member of Troop 123, chartered by First Lutheran Church Galveston and a freshman at Westlake High School.
Alan Ray Shaw, 16, son of Ning and Jean Shaw of Austin, led the construction of three sets of wheelchair accessible picnic tables and benches for Miracle League, a non-profit that allows children with disabilities to play baseball. Shaw is a member of Troop 513, chartered by the Hope Presbyterian Church, and a sophomore at Westwood High School.
City worker named Planner of the Year
Erika Ragsdale, city of Hutto planner, has been chosen as Planner of the Year by the Central Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association. The association names a planner of the year to recognize one individual within the region whose work best embodies the standards of the APA professional planning practice. Ragsdale has been a planner for Hutto for two years, working on a pedestrian mobility plan update, affordable housing policy and more.
