More than 4,000 Austin-area businesses and some churches have been getting inaccurate electric bills since last fall, according to Austin Energy.
Many of the problems are tied to the city-owned utility’s 18-month-old, $55 million billing system and difficulties processing a set of complex electric rates that took effect in October, according to a summary from Austin Energy. The utility has been making fixes, but, with each business having as many as eight months of inaccurate charges, there are thousands of bills that have yet to be reconciled, officials said last week.
