With the Texas Legislature set to return Monday to reconsider abortion legislation, Gov. Rick Perry and House Speaker Joe Straus expressed confidence Friday that the measure would pass.
But Straus disagreed with Perry on one key point. He criticized his fellow Republican for making personal comments about Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis, whose daylong filibuster killed the abortion bill in the Legislature’s first special session. Perry had said Davis’ upbringing in “difficult circumstances” should have taught her that “every life must be given a chance to recognize its full potential.”
