Authorities have identified all of the victims in a fatal crash that occurred Monday morning on Texas 71 about three miles east of Spicewood.
Lake Travis school district officials on Monday afternoon had identified the two people who died as Santiago Vega, a 17-year-old Lake Travis High School senior, and his mother, Cynthia Vega.
On Tuesday, the Texas Department of Public Safety identified another driver and passenger involved in the wreck as Bala Chandra Sekhar Gutti, 29, of Richardson, Lonnie Wade Jackson, 63, of Colman and Justino Rodriguez, 50, of Marble Falls.
A Subaru vehicle driven by Gutti was heading west on Texas 71 around 8:15 a.m. Monday, while a Ford Focus carrying the Vegas and Rodriguez was traveling east, according to DPS trooper Robbie Barrera. A Volvo tractor-trailer pulling a flatbed was also traveling east, some distance behind the Ford on Texas 71.
6:10 p.m. update: The two people who died in the car crash on Texas 71 near Spicewood early Monday have been identified as Santiago Vega, a 17-year-old Lake Travis High School senior, and his mother, Cynthia Vega, said Lake Travis school district officials.
Lake Travis High School Principal Gordon Butler sent a letter to parents Monday informing them of the fatal crash.
“Assisting students is our main concern during this difficult time,” Butler said. “In order to help them cope with this horrific incident, we have arranged for our district counselors to be on the LTHS campus during the week, as needed.”
Two other people were injured in the two-vehicle crash, but officials have not released their names.
Earlier: Two people were killed and at least two others were injured on Monday morning in a crash on Texas 71 just west of Travis County.
Austin-Travis County EMS crews were called out to the wreck on the highway near Fall Creek Road just southeast of Spicewood around 8:20 a.m.
Two people are being flown to an area hospital for treatment.
According to initial reports, at least one vehicle was involved with as many as three victims.
When they arrived, they found one person dead and two others who had suffered trauma.
