More than 25 people gathered Sunday in front of the Austin Police Department’s downtown headquarters to protest what they said was the wrongful death of Larry Eugene Jackson Jr., who was chased and fatally shot Friday by a police detective.
Outside the department, demonstrators waved signs and shouted as drivers honked their horns. Activist Aaron Smith said he helped organize the event because of growing community outrage over officers’ use of force.
