A woman has been charged with assault after officers said she beat Gabrielle Nestande in jail on Saturday, according to an arrest affidavit.
Nestande, 26, a former Texas legislative aide whose six-month sentence for criminally negligent homicide was questioned by lawmakers, police and the victim’s family, suffered a cut above her left eye and swelling and bruises to her face. The inmate who attacked her was Rachel Denise Castillo, 27, the affidavit said. Castillo punched Nestande and grabbed her by the throat about 4:50 p.m. at the Travis County Jail, according to the document, which says Nestande told officers she didn’t know why Castillo attacked her.
