Fighting back tears, Steven Fuller and other members of Dayspring Fellowship church, said they are glad that Terri Munoz Elmore — charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with the death of their pastor and his wife two years ago — is getting her day in court. They feared the worst, believing that the Travis County district attorney’s office was negotiating a plea bargain with Elmore.
Fuller, a boyhood friend of the pastor, and more than a dozen other church members were in the courtroom Friday as Elmore pleaded not guilty to two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the 2011 deaths of the Rev. Ernest Jackson Boyett and his wife, Barbara, both 64. They were a month shy of celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary before the head-on crash on U.S. 290 in southwestern Travis County.
