A Travis County jury sentenced repeat offender Gary Green to 99 years Wednesday for robbing a woman of her laptop computer in an Austin park in June 2012.
Prosecutor Christopher Baugh said Green, 50, had “a large criminal history,” including multiple trips to prison or jail for everything from involuntary manslaughter to theft in Travis and Dallas counties. Green’s criminal history was so extensive, Baugh said, he apparently forgot a few when he testified.
“I was able to remind him of about 14 other times he had forgotten about,” Baugh said.
Because of that lengthy criminal history, Green faced an enhanced punishment of at least 25 years.
The latest incident, in which Green was charged with robbery, occurred about 7:30 p.m. June 6, 2012, when he approached a woman using her laptop in Comal Park in East Austin. Police on routine patrol happened upon the incident and stopped it.
