A Travis County district judge Wednesday declared a mistrial in the murder trial of 21-year-old Kaitlyn Ritcherson after a hung jury that deliberated for almost two days could not reach a unanimous verdict.
“One juror will not change his vote,” said District Judge David Crain of the jury that was deadlocked 11-1 in favor of finding Ritcherson guilty. Crain got two notes from the jury, one Tuesday afternoon asking the judge for instructions of what to do next, and one shortly after lunch Wednesday saying they were still split 11-1. Crain granted defense attorney Charlie Baird’s request for a mistrial.
