Pending Austin police shooting cases
Aug. 31: Officer Shane Cunningham shot and injured Miguel Macias during a confrontation when police said Macias and another man were burglarizing a North Austin business. The case is under police investigation.
July 26: Detective Charles Kleinert fatally shot Larry Eugene Jackson Jr. after a pursuit and struggle. Police have said they believe Jackson was at a bank to commit fraud. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
May 17: Officer Robert Barger shot at Mark Guard. Guard wasn’t injured. Police said Guard pointed a gun at a neighbor and later at arriving officers. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
April 23: Four officers fired at Herbert Babelay during a confrontation at his East Austin home after officials say he pointed a rifle at officers responding to reports of a suicidal man. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
March 1: Officer Jonathan Whitted shot and killed John Schaefer outside his North Austin home after police say Schaefer refused to surrender his gun and pointed it at Whitted. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
Oct. 20, 2012: Officer Robert Krummel shot at, but missed hitting, a woman who officials say he thought was going to ram him with her car on Sixth Street. Police later said she was fleeing an unruly crowd. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
Sept. 25, 2012: Officer Brandon Blanch shot Maurice Paladino after officials say Paladino drove a stolen SUV toward the officer. The case is awaiting grand jury presentation.
