Standing next to a flesh-and-blood reminder of the human consequences of drinking and driving, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo on Wednesday called another “no-refusal” weekend for those suspected of drinking to excess and driving over the Independence Day holiday weekend.
That reminder was Jessica Huber, now 12, who nearly died in a drunken driving crash in November 2002 when she was 19 months old. Now a teenager, the girl has had to endure multiple surgeries.
