A new Austin commission that will draw the first-ever City Council districts wants to hire three staff members, and it’s unclear whether the salary costs will exceed the $140,000 allotted for the commission’s work.
At least two California commissions have spent far more than that in past few years to draw district lines for city and state offices. Austin’s commission could ask the City Council for more money.
