Man faces murder charge after teen found dead in Northeast Austin

A 34-year-old man is accused of killing a teenager and dumping his body in Northeast Austin in early November.

Austin Police Department.

Andre Pelon Jackson was arrested Monday and has been charged with murder in connection with the death of 19-year-old Kenneth Johnson.

Austin police officers found Johnson’s body bleeding in the roadway in the 7400 block of Geneva Drive after a passerby reported a man lying in the street around 9 p.m.

The officers immediately performed CPR on Johnson until paramedics arrived. Johnson was pronounced dead at 9:05 p.m.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, surveillance video captured shortly before Johnson’s body was found shows a man get into a blue Buick with Johnson and another man at a Studio 6 motel.

One of Johnson’s relatives told investigators she assumed Johnson was selling drugs.

Officers found Johnson’s body 15 minutes after the car pulled away from the motel.

In addition to surveillance footage, investigators say cell phone activity points to Jackson and Johnson being together at the time of Johnson’s death, the affidavit said.

Jackson was booked into the Travis County Jail just after 10 p.m. on Monday.

The murder charge Jackson faces is a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years in prison or life in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.
