Woman accused of injuring 2-year-old son at Leander H-E-B store

Highlights

A witness saw Amanda Ketterer pick up her son and throw him into a shopping cart, an affidavit says.

A police officer found a bruise on the boy’s face and red marks on his body, according to the affidavit.

A woman has been accused of injuring her 2-year-old son by throwing him into a shopping cart at an H-E-B store in Leander, according to an arrest affidavit.

Amanda Ketterer, 34, of Leander was charged with injury to a child. A witness told police that she saw Ketterer on Tuesday pick up her son “and throw him into the large open portion of a shopping cart while letting go while he was still in the air,” the affidavit said.

Police were notified at 2:46 p.m. Tuesday about a woman “who was abusing a young child near the checkout of the business” at the store at 651 U.S. 183 North in Leander, according to the affidavit.

Other witnesses said they heard Ketterer cussing loudly at the boy throughout the store, according to the affidavit. It said one witness heard Ketterer tell her son that she would “beat him within an inch of his life.”

Another witness also saw Ketterer “forcefully pushing down” on her son while he was in the seat portion of the shopping cart by “grabbing onto his arms and holding him down,” the affidavit said.

The document said a police officer called to the store saw that the toddler had a large bruise on one side of his face and red marks on the left side of his hip and along his lower back “that appeared to be recent injuries.” Ketterer told the officer that she didn’t cause the bruise on her son’s face, the affidavit said.

Ketterer was being held in the Williamson County Jail on Wednesday with bail set at $10,000.
