U.S. judge orders fixes to ‘still broken’ Texas foster care system

Water main break closes MLK Jr. Blvd. near Airport Blvd. in East Austin

Authorities closed a key stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in East Austin near Airport Boulevard early Wednesday after a water main ruptured, causing a sinkhole to form in the road.

The city’s water utility, Austin Water, reported that its crews were on the way to the scene of the 12-inch main break, which occurred between Airport Boulevard and Harvey Street.

Authorities have asked drivers to avoid the area while repairs are underway. They have not yet provided an estimate on when the repairs will be finished or when the road will reopen.

Drivers should consider alternate routes in the area, such as Manor Road or East 12th Street.
