Official: Driver found shot on RM 620 involved in ‘criminal activity’

Highlights

A driver was shot in the shoulder and taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Sheriff Robert Chody said

The sheriff said investigators are still investigating the shooting in the 15000 block of RM 620.

1:15 p.m. update: The shooting of a driver Thursday morning on FM 620 in Williamson County was not a random road rage incident, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Patricia Gutierrez.

Investigators believe the incident is related to “criminal activity,” she said.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, said he exchanged gunfire with the driver of a white Jeep, Gutierrez said. The incident started in Austin but officials have not determined where the shooting happened. The man was shot once in the left shoulder, Gutierrez said.

The man told investigators that he threw his gun out the window after the shooting but that he could not remember where, Gutierrez said. A deputy and a dog were searching for the gun at the scene, a busy intersection at 620 and Texas 45.

Gutierrez said the man was not being cooperative with investigators and would not say whether he knew the person who shot him. Officials found multiple bullet holes in his Nissan Maxima.

Authorities were alerted by a person at the Edge Productions barbershop at 15014 FM 620 North about 8:15 a.m. Deputies were searching the man’s car that was parked outside the barbershop.

Police are still searching for the driver of the Jeep and are asking for help from anyone who has information about what happened.

Earlier: The Williamson County sheriff’s office is investigating a shooting Thursday morning where a driver was shot in the shoulder, Sheriff Robert Chody reported via Twitter. The driver was taken from the scene in the 15000 block of RM 620 North to the hospital with an injury not expected to be life-threatening, Chody said.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether the shooting happened at the scene or elsewhere, Chody said. He said it was not clear yet whether the shooting was a road rage incident. The investigation is developing and authorities had no information on a possible suspect, he said.
