Feds to investigate synthetic marijuana case.

Four arrested in bust.

Working off a tip, Austin police stopped a vehicle Sunday that had an estimated $1.1 million worth of the synthetic drug known as K2 inside multiple trash bags in south-central Austin, police said.

Four people were taken into custody, police said.

The case has been accepted for federal prosecution, and Austin police officials declined to immediately release details about the exact location of the stop or the names of the people involved.

Austin police received information from a Crime Stoppers tip about a group that was dealing large amounts of K2 in the Austin area, police said. The tipster said the dealers would be going to Houston to pick up a large amount of K2 to bring back to the Austin area for distribution.

Working with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the Austin police Organized Crime Division Narcotics Conspiracy Team coordinated with the Houston Police Department Kush Task Force, surveilling the suspected dealers as they traveled back to Austin, police said. Austin police patrol officers stopped the vehicle and detained four people.

They searched the vehicle and found 74.32 kilograms of K2 in multiple trash bags, which represents 222,960 individual doses of K2, police said.

This aligns with what K2 users in Austin have previously said — K2 is a cheap drug that often costs around $5.
