Austin ISD trustees weigh ban on PreK through 2nd grade suspensions

The Austin school board tonight will vote on whether to ban home suspensions for its youngest students.

Hundreds of students in prekindergarten through second grade are suspended from Austin schools every year. Of the 351 pre-K through second grade students suspended in Austin last year, 85 percent were black or Latino.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and trustees are expected to discuss the issue after 9:30 p.m.
