Natalie Maines was smart to release her debut solo album, “Mother,” just in time for Mother’s Day, on which it doubtless will become a gift to Dixie Chick-fan moms everywhere, even though the title Pink Floyd song is far from an uplifting tribute to Mom. It’s all good, though, because on Mother’s Day the mere word is enough. Today, we honor all mothers both mortal and mythical. So, let’s offer a tribute to some other mothers whose names we invoke frequently:
