Remember that hitcher you picked up in 1974 — late 20s; pretty with short, wavy, red hair; looking for a lift to the University of Texas? That might have been Susan Sarandon. She was in town at the time filming “The Great Waldo Pepper” with Robert Redford and Bo Svenson.
“I learned to throw pots in Austin,” she says. “I would get up in the morning, and if the sky was clear and it was beautiful as it seems to always be, then I would hitchhike — because I was crazy — to the university, where I was taking a potting class.”
