The films are ready, the staff’s in place, the VIPs are lined up and the red carpet’s long enough, so as Austin’s Fantastic Fest opens today, there’s just one little fly in the ointment for assistant festival director Damon Jones and his wife, event planner Laurie: They have to put on shoes.
That Laurie calls them “straitjackets for feet” makes sense only if you’re aware that for the past two years, these two have lived on a 34-foot sailboat, cruising 4,000 miles with their dog, Kemah. How’s that for fantastic?
