When the starting horn sounds for the Austin Marathon in February, at least one 15-year-old and a handful of 16- and 17-year-olds will join the mass of runners surging across the start line.
It takes a lot of preparation to run a 26.2-mile race. Training gobbles time and exhausts the body, both physically and mentally. Still, anyone who has finished a marathon knows the rewards are enormous.
