Marnie O’Donnell took her time finding just the right building to house her dream — a barre fitness studio — after she and her fiance, Keith Duncan, moved to Austin last May. The hunt for prime real estate paid off when she discovered the trim white abode next to restaurant Olivia on South Lamar Boulevard was available. It’s now Mod Fitness Studio and just opened last month.
Even before arriving in town, O’Donnell had been wanting to start up an exercise studio where she could teach her own version of the Lotte Berk method, a workout system that a German dancer developed out of ballet barre routines and rehabilitative therapy moves. Along with two other instructors, one a yoga teacher with downtown’s Wanderlust Live, O’Donnell teaches a mix of classes, mostly ballet-based, but with pilates, yoga and free-weight exercises tossed in.
