New vintage, designer store coming next year
Austin’s vintage retail scene will strengthen in 2014 with the addition of Garment, a women’s clothing store offering high-end vintage as well as new, independent designers.
Masha Poloskova, co-owner and buyer for Feathers Boutique, recently announced her new venture as well as her departure from Feathers at the end of the year to concentrate on the new store.
“I have enjoyed growing the Austin vintage scene over the past eight years at Feathers, and I am very excited to continue exploring the retail world with Garment,” Poloskova says. “The concept at Garment will be a fusion of everything that I love. It will be a place where you can find a vintage YSL blazer, an indie label silk dress, plus, a diamond ring! I am so thrilled to share my vision for Garment with Austin.”
Poloskova is also behind the successful boutique Moss Designer Consignment, which earlier this year expanded to include men’s clothing. Garment is expected to open on South Lamar Boulevard next year and will also carry accessories and fine jewelry.
UT alum’s pieces have worldly feel
Inspired by old-world travel, exotic locations and diverse cultures, jewelry designer Suzie Gallehugh of Suzanna Dai jewelry recently moved back to Austin after living in New York for several years. The University of Texas alumna’s jewelry line has made a splash, often appearing in national magazines and on celebrities including Blake Lively, Sofia Vergara and Alicia Keys.
The jewelry, which has a vintage feel with a modern touch, is handcrafted with cording, metal threads, semi-precious beads, silver and 14-karat gold-plated components. Suzanna Dai jewelry retails for $125-$470, and is available online at suzannadai.com and locally at Julian Gold, Calypso and Anthropologie.
