Hays County handling large grass fire east of Kyle

Multiple fire departments are working to extinguish a large grass fire east of Kyle, in the area of Mathias Lane and Peaceful Valley Road.

The fire is about 170 to 200 acres in size.

One home is engulfed in flames, but no one has been reported injured, according to the Hays County sheriff’s office. There are several homes that are reportedly near the fire.

Residents in that area are being asked to leave their homes, according to the Hays County Office of Emergency Management.

The Science Hall Elementary School gym, at 1510 Bebee Road, Kyle, is open to any resident being asked to evacuate who needs a place to go. This facility will not serve as an overnight shelter, only as a location residents can gather for the time being.
