It’s as if the broadcast networks have just given up. Except for a special here and an awards show there, most of this week’s new programming is showing on basic cable. Fortunately (and finally!) that includes the first of eight more episodes of AMC’s “Breaking Bad,” along with ancillary “Bad” programming. Here’s what caught my eye.
Sunday: “Teen Choice Awards,” 7 p.m., Fox: Teen heartthrobs One Direction and pop-rockers Paramore headline the performers on this tribute to entertainment, fashion and sporting achievement.
“Breaking Bad,” 8 p.m., AMC: How will Walter handle meth-buster Hank? What’s up with Jesse? The best show currently on television launches its final eight episodes tonight.
“Food Network Star,” 8 p.m., Food Network: Winner, winner, chicken dinner! Season 9 concludes with tonight’s look-back.
“Low Winter Sun,” 9 p.m., AMC: Crime lords and cops reign in this Detroit-based adaptation of the British drama.
“Talking Bad,” 10 p.m., AMC: “Breaking Bad” gets the “Talking Dead” treatment, with host Chris Hardwick and guests analyzing each week’s episode.
Monday: “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock,” 7 p.m., ABC: One Direction and Paramore are nowhere near this celebration of twangin’ and sangin’. Look for Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley, though.
“The Real Housewives of Miami,” 8 p.m., Bravo: Season 3 begins, if you’re into this sort of thing.
“Mythbusters: Breaking Bad Special,” 9 p.m., Discovery: Yo! Mr. White! If there’s ever been a more perfect television segment than Adam and Jamie testing whether or not a bathtub filled with acid and a dissolved body could actually eat through a ceiling, I haven’t seen it.
“Hotel Impossible,” 9 p.m., Travel Channel: Season 3 begins in Baltimore.
Tuesday: “Doomsday Preppers,” 8 p.m., Nat Geo: It’s game and gallows in the third-season kickoff.
Wednesday: “Duck Dynasty,” 9 p.m., A&E: Wedding bells ring in the Season 4 opener.
Thursday: “Owner’s Manual,” 9 p.m., AMC: Two contestants complete a challenge, but only one of them gets the instructions. There will be extra bolts.
“The Pitch,” 10 p.m., AMC: Season 2 premieres.
Friday: “Say Yes to the Dress,” 8 p.m., TLC: Kristin Chenoweth guests on the 10th-season premiere.
“Ghost Adventures,” 8 p.m., Travel Channel: Yep, the Pioneer Saloon sounds like a good place to find — wait for it … spirits. Season 8 begins tonight.
Saturday: “Baby Sellers,” 7 p.m., Lifetime: Sadly, this movie is not about a very, very young Peter Sellers.
“Being Human,” 10 p.m., BBC America: Being over. The final episode airs tonight.
