My first favorite band was the Monkees, the Prefab Four, who came a couple years later. Banded by audition and groomed by bubblegum svengali Don Kirshner, the Monkees were the original boy band. But I didn’t care about the purity of how they came to be. I didn’t even know they had a TV show when I heard this song called “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone” on the radio and rushed out and got “More of the Monkees.”
