Indeed, they have been their own category at South by Southwest — 24 Beats Per Second — for a number of years. “Searching for Sugar Man,” a 24 Beats documentary that played at SXSW last year (after opening Sundance), about the quest to find mysterious Detroit musician Sixto Rodriguez, picked up this year’s Academy Award for best documentary.
