Country superstar Kenny Chesney kicked off the first night at the Austin360 Amphitheater on Friday before a crowd of 14,000 or so happy fans who danced and sang along on the lawn of the new venue. It’s the largest permanent outdoor theater in Central Texas, located inside one of the larger turns in the Circuit of the Americas.
Chesney, following opener Kacey Musgraves, offered the packed theater — which consists of two tiers of seating (with a removable floor section) and a large lawn — a big opening party, taking the stage to “Feel Like a Rock Star” after two minutes of guitar rumbling. He followed with a more or less nonstop sampling of his well-known catalog, including “Beer In Mexico,” “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems” and the reggae number “Everybody Wants To Go to Heaven,” all backed by video of Chesney hanging out on yachts in the Caribbean with beautiful women.
