It was a big year for local talent at this year’s South by Southwest Film Festival and Conference, featuring the best crop of Austin-made movies we can remember screening together in one year.
In addition to the exceptional work of some of Austin’s finest directors — Richard Linklater (“Before Midnight”), Jeff Nichols (“Mud,” starring Matthew McConaughey) and David Gordon Green (“Prince Avalanche,” whose co-star Paull Rudd was spotted enjoying a concert featuring Band of Horses and the Roots last week downtown) — SXSW showcased many of Austin’s ascendant actors and directors: Yen Tan (“Pit Stop”), Chris Eska (“The Retrieval”), Bryan Poyser (“The Bounceback”), Andrew Bujalski (“Computer Chess”) and Geoff Marslett (“Loves Her Gun”), all of whom had films that played to strong audiences.
