Before Cori Stern Shepherd moved to Hollywood, she was a struggling artist in Austin. She spent nights couch surfing and days living in RV’s on her friends’ driveways, but now, she says she’s “doing OK.” She’s the producer of “Open Heart,” which earned a nomination for best short documentary at Sunday’s Oscars.
“I went to Central Market the day I found out and was just walking around. Then I turned a corner and suddenly remembered when I had been about to leave Austin without any money, without anything, really,” Shepherd said. “When I decided I was moving to Hollywood, I was in that Central Market in that exact same place, and that’s when I started to bawl my eyes out.”
