The Austin Film Festival has announced its initial lineup of feature films and some special screenings for the 2013 edition. The roster is highlighted by director Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska.” The movie stars Bruce Dern and Will Forte as a father and son who set out on a road-trip across the Midwest to collect a financial windfall.
Writing in Variety, Scott Foundas said the movie is “a wistful ode to small-town Midwestern life and the quixotic dreams of stubborn old men.” The “Sideways” director’s “The Descendants” played at the festival in 2011. As part of a special retrospective screening series, Payne’s longtime collaborator, Jim Taylor, will screen the 1999 comedy “Election,” written by Taylor and directed by Payne.
