FROM OVERNIGHT: Police seeking man who robbed two Austin IHOP restaurants at gunpoint

4:45 a.m. update: A second IHOP restaurant has been robbed at gunpoint Monday morning, according to Austin Police.

The second restaurant, at 901 East Koenig Lane near Airport Boulevard in North Austin, was robbed around 4:40 a.m.

The description of the robber was similar to the description of a person that robbed an IHOP restaurant on South MoPac Boulevard near Bee Cave Road in South Austin about an hour earlier on Monday.

Police, who are still searching for the gunman and investigating the scene of the robbery, said they consider the man armed and dangerous.

Earlier: Austin police are investigating the robbery of an IHOP restaurant on South MoPac Boulevard (Loop 1) near Bee Cave Road in South Austin this morning.

Officers responded to the restaurant at 1101 S. MoPac Blvd. around 3:45 a.m. after a man entered the business armed with a pistol with a long magazine, Austin police said.

The man was described by witnesses as having a blue bandana over his face, police said, and wearing a blue sweatshirt and tan shorts.

CodeNext draft would open up city to garage apartments

After a months-long battle between neighborhood groups and urbanists, the Austin City Council struck a compromise in November 2015. Garage apartments would be allowed in a certain type of zoning that covered about 9,000 lots citywide, but not in another type of zoning covering some 62,000 lots. The proposed changes under CodeNext could end that truce...
