Austin’s red-hot real estate market isn’t the only reason Realty Austin employees look forward to going to work each day.
Based upon employee surveys, the locally owned real estate agency was named the area’s No.1 midsized employer in the American-Statesman’s 2013 Top Workplaces project.
Being at the top of the rankings isn’t new for Realty Austin; last year the company was ranked No. 1 in the American-Statesman’s Top Workplaces project’s small employer category.
Established in 2004, Realty Austin has expanded rapidly, opening offices in downtown Austin and Southwest Austin, as well as the Avery Ranch, Lake Travis and Westlake areas. The company now has more than 200 employees and had more than $800 million in sales in 2012.
That growth has largely been made possible because owners Yvette and Jonathan Boatwright have created a “sense of community and sense of family,” said Courtney Lepore, the company’s director of operations.
“A sense of team always exists,” Lepore said. “We are the best. It’s that simple.”
Co-owner Yvette Boatright said she strives to create a “happy, supportive environment” each day.
“We believe in the servant leadership model,” she said. “We’re not working from the top down, we’re working from the bottom up. We’re approachable, and our doors are always open.”
That’s unusual in the fiercely competitive real estate sector, said Marc Warshawsky, Realty Austin’s Southwest market manager. That’s why, he said, competition is intense when job openings arise.
And with Austin-area home sales posting significant year-to-year gains each month, the agency has been steadily adding agents.
“We have a high bar. People work hard to get here and once they do, it’s rewarding,” Warshawsky said. “We offer more help and more support than other places. We don’t just welcome people and then abandon them.”
Paul Huddleston, who joined Realty Austin this year, said the company is forward thinking, particularly when it comes to using the latest technology to market homes.
“The entire approach here is different,” he said. “We’re not constantly playing catch-up, like some other places. We’re fresh and innovative, not stagnant.”
