Austin Community College is taking another step in its vision of turning the former Highland Mall into an educational and workforce-training campus that eventually could be surrounded by shops, apartments and offices.
Fast-growing ACC, which owns the former 1.2-million square foot mall on Airport Boulevard and more than 80 acres of land at the site, is seeking a team to come up with a blueprint for how to convert the interior mall space into instructional uses. ACC said it plans to review interested parties’ qualifications and select a team in September or October, with a goal to have a master plan completed by June 2014.
