Brian Manley will become the city’s interim police chief

Brian Manley, former Austin police Chief Art Acevedo’s chief of staff, is set to be formally approved as interim chief during Thursday’s meeting of the Austin City Council.

Interim City Manager Elaine Hart pegged Manley to lead the Austin Police Department during its leadership transition on Nov. 18, the day after Acevedo accepted an offer from Houston’s mayor to be that city’s next police chief.

Acevedo was formally sworn in as Houston police chief on Wednesday.

Manley, 49, has been with the police department for 26 years. Acevedo appointed him to be his chief of staff in 2015.
