We Are Blood, Austin’s blood bank, puts out call for donations

The holidays are a busy time of year.

But when it comes to giving blood, things can be a bit slow.

The need for blood never slows down, though, so We Are Blood, Austin’s blood bank, has kicked off what it’s calling the “12 Days of Giving.” Anyone who donates – or tries to donate – between now and Dec. 22 will be entered into a drawing for a variety of prizes.

Those prizes include dinner at Café No Sé or Central Standard, a weekend getaway to San Antonio including a one-night stay at Hotel Havana, tickets to Winter Wonderland at Circuit of the Americas, a five-class gift pack from Love Cycling Studio and packages from the Salt Lick barbecue restaurant and Texas Monthly magazine.

Winners will be announced daily on We Are Blood’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Separately, anyone who donates through Dec. 31 will also get a coupon for a free pint of ice cream from Amy’s Ice Creams.

We Are Blood has three donation locations:

  • North Austin: 4300 N. Lamar Blvd.
  • South Austin: 3100 W. Slaughter Lane
  • Round Rock: 2132 N. Mays, Suite 900

To donate blood, you must be in good health, be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 115 pounds (or 110 pounds if you are donating platelets).
