What’s caught our eye lately? Lots. If you’re into bats, paddling, yoga, beer, swimming or running — and we know you are — read on.

Moonlight Bat Float

Did someone say live music, paddling and Mexican free-tailed bats? The Texas River School hosts a monthly Moonlight Bat Float on Lady Bird Lake. Meet at the Texas Rowing Center, 1541 West Cesar Chavez St., climb into a kayak or canoe and paddle downriver to watch the bats emerge from beneath the Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. A musician will paddle along, serenading the group. The next outing is set for Aug. 5. Check-in is at 6:30 p.m., and paddlers launch at 7 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults or $10 for kids. Future floats are scheduled for Sept. 9 and Oct. 7. Make advance reservations at texasriverschool.org.

Pints & Poses

The Hyatt Regency Austin hosts a monthly yoga session, and participants get a coupon for a draft beer at the hotel’s Marker 10 bar afterward. The best news? It’s all free, including parking in the hotel’s garage. The Pints & Poses classes start at 6:30 p.m. in the air-conditioned Texas Ballroom on the hotel’s second floor. Splash ’n Dash

Heads up, multi-sport fans. Pure Austin hosts the next race in its Splash ’n Dash series on July 18. The race — a 750-meter swim plus a 3K run — starts at 6:30 p.m. The races take place the third Tuesday of each month through September at Pure Austin Fitness, 4210 West Braker Lane. Registration is $20 in advance or $25 on site the day of the event. To sign up, go to pureaustin.com.

Hottest Day of the Year Ride

It’s fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk hot, people. Why not just embrace the heat? Bike Austin will host its annual Hottest Day of the Year Ride starting at 2 p.m. Aug. 12. Cyclists will start from three separate locations — one north, one south and one east — with each route stopping at various swimming pools along the way. All three routes will converge at the same yet-to-be-determined spot for a post-ride party with music, cold drinks and door prizes. Registration is $10 for members or $15 for nonmembers in advance (add $5 for day of signup) and includes snacks along the way, mechanical support during the ride and the after-party. 100th running of Vern’s No Frills 5K

We love inexpensive fitness events, and Vern’s No Frills 5K has been serving up its buck-a-head run (free for students and members of the Georgetown Running Club) since 2009. On Aug. 19, organizers will celebrate the 100th running of the event, which started as a way to encourage people to participate in a fun, casual and professionally organized race. The event was renamed to honor Vern Cantwell, the race’s first starter, who died of a heart attack while cycling with friends. The race takes place at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month at Berry Springs Park and Preserve, 1801 County Road 152. Proceeds (yes, even at that price the race has raised money) have funded a log splitter, wildflower seeds, fish pond stocking, trail markers, trail certification, barn maintenance and interpretive sign updating at the park.
